Felician University Launches Men's and Women's Wrestling Programs

Wrestling continues to grow in Bergen County. Felician University in Rutherford has announced plans to bring men’s and women’s wrestling to the Division II school by 2024. The teams will compete in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association during the winter and fall seasons, beginning in November 2024.

At Felician, wrestling is just the latest addition to the university’s growing sports offerings. “We’re going to be probably embarking on 23 sports when everything’s said and done by adding men’s swimming, and eSports,” Toriello said.

Wrestling will become the university's 21st varsity sport, 12th women's offering and 9th men's offering with the addition. It will compete at the NCAA Division II level and within the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) during the Fall/Winter seasons, beginning in early November and its regular season ending by February.

"I am very excited to add sports to our intercollegiate athletics offerings and we are ecstatic to become the only Division II school in the state of New Jersey that will sponsor both men and women's wrestling", Toriello stated. Men's wrestling is one of the oldest NCAA championship sports dating back to its first ever tournament event in 1928 at Iowa State, but, in early 2020, women's wrestling reached emerging status at the Division II and III levels.
