The Mira Mesa High School wrestling program boasts a storied history marked by consecutive championships and a strong sense of community. The program continues to build on its legacy of success both for the boys and girls teams.
The Boys Wrestling team has achieved remarkable success, winning fourteen (14) consecutive League Championships with a dual meet record of 70-0. The Girls Wrestling Program have won three (3) consecutive Conference Championships. The 2018-2019 season was one for the record books. Logging a perfect 17-0 dual record, Mira Mesa also finished the season as Division 2 CIF Runners Up and was the 4th overall best team in San Diego and Imperial Counties (San Diego Section Masters).
The cycle of excellence continued this year for the Mira Mesa Wrestling team. Winning their 7th consecutive City Conference and Eastern League Championships, the Marauders soundly defeated all opponents in the Eastern League. Mira Mesa High School Wrestling won it’s 7th consecutive Eastern League title and 7th consecutive San Diego City Conference title this month.
Finishing 3rd in the San Diego Section (San Diego and Imperial Counties), Mira Mesa logged another season for the record books. In fact, for the first time in team history, all 14 Marauder wrestlers qualified for the Section Tournament.
Coaching and Community Support
Christian has been an assistant wrestling coach at Mira Mesa for the past two seasons. The program is also taking applications for Part time and Full time Assistant Coaching positions.

Van Dyke turned to the Mira Mesa community for help. Several people stepped up donating shoes, clothing, food, a place to stay and some even created a GoFundMe to help Usmonov extend his Visa and pay for other expenses.
“Without the community support, honestly, I fear that Sardar would end up in the system and unfortunately that could mean he would move away ... “The Mira Masa community is wonderful.
The Story of Sardar Usmonov
In May 2023, Usmonov's dream came true. He gave up a spot on the national team in Uzbekistan to come to the United States and pursue an education and wrestling career in San Diego. “America is also good practice, also nice.
Everything seemed like it was falling into place for Usmonov until a sudden change jeopardized his ability to continue doing what he loves. “He loves California. He loves wrestling more than anything. And so, he was determined to stay here with us. We are a second family, but for him, we're his first family,” Van Dyke said.
“These kids need help in life, and I try to be all things to all wrestlers. So whatever they need is what I step in and try to help with, whether that's in school, whether it's in their living situation, relationships with parents and friends, whatever the case may be.

“I want to win California Championships and then national team also. Then I'm going to keep going and then I'm practiced. And then, a full-ride wrestling scholarship to a university.

Come be part of our tradition. Freshmen and Sophomores welcome, Juniors and Seniors will try out for a roster spot. PE clothes and wrestling shoes will be required to wrestle.
