Here’s a breakdown of the key organizations hosting wrestling tournaments and events in the region:

  • SEPA Wrestling (Southeastern Pennsylvania Wrestling): SEPA Wrestling is one of the most prominent organizations in the area, focusing on youth and scholastic wrestling.
  • USA Wrestling - Pennsylvania: As the national governing body for wrestling, USA Wrestling’s Pennsylvania chapter is a hub for freestyle, Greco-Roman, and folkstyle wrestling.
  • NAWE (National Amateur Wrestling Events): NAWE focuses on providing competitive opportunities for wrestlers of all ages and skill levels.
  • MAWA (Mid-Atlantic Wrestling Association): MAWA is one of the most respected wrestling organizations in the region, hosting tournaments for youth, high school, and open-level wrestlers. These are great for beginners and younger wrestlers to gain experience.
  • High School Wrestling Associations: The PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) oversees high school wrestling in the state, including district and regional championships.
  • Collegiate Wrestling: For older wrestlers, the Philly area is home to several NCAA programs and open tournaments.

The District 1 Regional tournament plays host to wrestlers from 63 of the represented schools in the four-county area, Chester, Delaware, Bucks, and Montgomery. Some consider it a “meat grinder,” where the best of SEPA come to fulfill their destiny, or meet their fate.
