Canelo vs. Scull: Weigh-In Results and Fight Preview

Canelo Alvarez and William Scull successfully weighed in for their undisputed super middleweight championship fight, which is scheduled for this Saturday, May 3rd, and will be available on DAZN PPV. The event will take place at The Venue in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

At the weigh-in on Friday, Canelo Alvarez weighed 167.1 lbs, while William Scull weighed 166.1 lbs. A visibly fatigued-looking unified super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez, weighed in at 167.1 lbs for his undisputed super middleweight championship against IBF champ William Scull at Friday’s weigh-in for their headliner on DAZN PPV this Saturday, May 3rd. Scull (23-0, 9 KOs) weighed 166.1 lbs.

Three-belt 168-lb champion Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs) had a sour look, perhaps annoyed by IBF champion Scull’s smiling, at-ease appearance.

Undisputed super middleweight champion status is on the line as Canelo puts his WBA, WBC, and WBO belts on the line against Scull’s IBF title.

Saul Canelo Alvarez aims to regain the undisputed super middleweight title in the main event by adding Cuban William Scull’s IBF title to his collection. If successful, Canelo will become a two-time four-belt holder at 168 pounds. The Mexican superstar currently holds the WBC, WBO, and WBA versions.

Canelo (62-2-2) only lost the IBF title in the first place when he chose to fight Edgar Berlanga this past September instead of Scull (23-0), the IBF’s mandatory challenger. The undefeated Scull instead went on to defeat Vladimir Shishkin for a vacant belt.

Some have been comparing Scull to Erislandy Lara, and wondering if he can school Alvarez the way he did in 2014. They question whether Scull will be robbed the way Lara was by the judges.

Canelo better hope that he has more left than what he showed in his last two fights, because Scull will give him a boxing lesson if the Mexican star can’t raise his game. What Alvarez needs is a working time machine that can return the 2021 version of himself.

The pound-for-pound star kicks off his four-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh and Riyadh Season, knowing a win will lead to Terence Crawford in September.
