Father Judge High School Wrestling: A Legacy of Champions

Father Judge High School is a Roman Catholic high school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The school is named for Father Thomas Augustine Judge (1868-1933), who organized lay missionaries in the northeastern United States and founded the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity.

Father Judge High School's Athletic Department currently offers 16 interscholastic athletic programs and two club sports programs. Among these is a competitive wrestling program, which has contributed significantly to the school's athletic legacy.

The athletic programs offered at Father Judge include: Soccer, Football, Golf, Cross Country, Fall Crew, Basketball, Wrestling, Bowling, Indoor Track, Baseball, Lacrosse, Outdoor Track, Tennis, Spring Crew, and club sports Ice Hockey.

The school has participated in 59 PCL Championships and 18 City (District XII) Championships over its 60-year history, with the most recent teams of Soccer, Wrestling, and Bowling capturing their titles in the 2013-2014 season.

The school launched the Patrick S. McGonigal '81 Center for Fitness and Wellness in 2013 to offer fitness and wellness programming open to the entire student body.

The Wrestling Team at La Salle College High School traveled to Father Judge on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 and defeated the Crusaders to win their sixth Philadelphia Catholic League Championship in seven years. The Explorers used four pins (three consecutive) in route to a 40-38 victory. First-year coach, Frank Cimato, and his squad recaptured the championship they had lost last year to Father Judge.

The team will travel to Hershey's Giant Arena for the PIAA AAA State Tournament with a match starting Thursday, February 5th at 8pm.

Pennsylvania breeds high school wrestling champions in places like Easton, Clearfield and Canonsburg. Now, you can add Port Richmond and Father Judge High School to the list.

On Saturday night, Judge junior Joe Galasso captured the 138-pound championship at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Class AAA Wrestling Tournament at the Giant Center in Hershey. He is the first high school wrestler from Philadelphia to win a state title.

The Explorers jumped to an early lead (18-5) and led by 14 with two matches left in the meet.
