Early Life and Training

Armfield was born on April 6, 1989, in Houston, Texas. Armfield began training in martial arts at the age of fifteen when his father signed him up for a kickboxing class at the local gym. He quickly took to it and began competing in amateur tournaments soon after. At eighteen he joined an MMA school where he learned a variety of disciplines such as jiu-jitsu, wrestling, boxing and muay thai.

When asked about his training regimen, Armfield shared:

I wake up at 7am and stretch and do yoga before breakfast, and then at 9am, I go to the gym to get ready for training at 10. Training usually goes from 10 to 11:30am. After the first session, I either go to work and wait tables, and if I don’t have work, then I go home and I rest, then we go back at 5pm for the night session, and that usually runs until 6pm.

His hard work paid off and soon he was competing professionally in both submission grappling tournaments (known as grappling competitions) as well as MMA events under the moniker ‘The Human Predator’ . In 2011 Garrett made his professional debut with the VFC organization which eventually led to him joining the UFC roster three years later after going 5-1 with them over two years of competition.

Professional MMA Debut

Armfield made his professional debut against Shane Bridges on August 18, 2018, fighting on the main card of Pyramid Fights 8. He made a winning start to his career, defeating Shane Bridges who carried a 0-3-0 professional MMA record into the fight. Garrett Armfield beat Shane Bridges by KO/TKO at 3:36 of Round 1.
