Isaiah Harrison has quickly risen to prominence in the wrestling world, showcasing exceptional talent and dedication. His journey from a newcomer to a state champion is a testament to his hard work and the support of his coaches and family. This article delves into the key moments and achievements of Isaiah Harrison's wrestling career.
Early Years and Initial Struggles
Before focusing solely on wrestling, Harrison also played football. “I used to play football and that was it,” Harrison said. During his freshman year, Harrison’s approach to wrestling was more relaxed. “Freshman year, I didn’t really care about anything,” Harrison said. “I didn’t care about winning that much. I wanted to win, but I didn’t care about losing. I wasn’t really nervous about anything. If I won, I won and if I lost, I lost.”
Despite this laid-back attitude, Harrison achieved a 38-9 record in his freshman season and secured a fifth-place finish at the state level. Gore knew at the start of Harrison’s freshman year that he was capable of being a state champion. “I saw it last year when he first got here,” Gore said. “He showed up and I had heard, because I just started coaching last year, I heard that we had a kid that was pretty tough coming in. Started rolling around a little bit and saw a lot of potential."
Breakthrough and State Championship
From that work, Harrison took a 40-2 record into the state tournament. He won his opening bout on a technical fall after taking a 15-0 lead in points in 2 minutes, 28 seconds. He won a 14-1 decision in the semifinals to set up the state championship match against Pueblo East senior L.J. Herburger. After finishing fifth at state as a freshman, Harrison went 44-2 as a sophomore and won his first title in the Class 4A 106-pound weight class.
His coaches at Bear Cave helped him get really far. “I knew that he would be a state champ and I really thought it was going to be this year that it happened,” Gore said.

Leadership and Character
Beyond his wrestling skills, Harrison is recognized for his leadership qualities both on and off the mat. “Isaiah, he has every opportunity to make bad decisions with his friends,” Mountain View head coach Patrick Gore said. “He doesn’t mess around, but he makes sure he is a leader on and off the mat. He can walk around the halls, and he is still leading everybody he’s around. In the wrestling room, he is picking up kids that have never wrestled before and they are going .500 in the season. “He’ll put in the work. You can’t count him out.
Future Aspirations
Looking ahead, Harrison is determined to continue his success and aim for further championships. “There is probably going to be more pressure (next year) because I want to be a two-timer,” Harrison said. “I feel like that would be really cool.
