What is American Jiu-Jitsu (AJJ) and Submission Grappling?

American Jiu-Jitsu (AJJ) and Submission Grappling are martial arts based on grappling and ground fighting. It focuses on the skill of controlling your opponent and applying techniques that force him or her to submit. Using AJJ and Submission Grappling, you will learn how to use leverage, grip, and position to overcome your opponents even if they are bigger or stronger. Most of the techniques learned will concentrate on taking your opponent down to the ground and keeping them there, enabling you to attack for submissions.

Class Structure

Classes are generally structured in the same fashion each session.

All classes will begin with a dynamic warm up that is intended to heat up and loosen the muscles that will assist in preventing injuries. From there, the class will drill fundamental techniques that are used frequently; this will help set the foundation for grappling base. Next the Coach will provide a few techniques for the day, more often than not, the techniques will be provided in a series over the course of a few classes. For the last 30-45mins of class, you will participate in live rolling/sparring. The only exception is fundamentals classes.

Youth Program

The Youth Program at QCJJ is for ages 5-6 (Young Lions), ages 7-9 and ages 10-15 (Jr Teens). Physically, Jiu Jitsu improves and develops mobility, coordination and flexibility, and is a great form of exercise that helps with conditioning. Jiu Jitsu teaches you how to use your body efficiently to escape and/or gain control over opposition using positional awareness and leverage.

One parent shares, "I trained BJJ for years and I wanted to see if my kids would also enjoy the sport. I am happy to say that my kids love QCBJJ. They go 3-4 times a week and they routinely tell me that BJJ was their favorite part of the day. The instructors at QCJJ are patient and all around great with the kids. My kids were 5 and 8 when they started and they are able to pick up the techniques. They also talk every day about bullying and self confidence. Great experience all around. I would absolutely recommend this gym to anybody looking to get started in martial arts."
