Sigrun Metzger is a senior at Crestview High School with a rich background in grappling arts. Early Years and Transition to Wrestling

Sigrun's early exposure to grappling arts laid a solid foundation for her future in wrestling. In her first year of middle school wrestling, she took 2nd place in the Southwest Washington Middle School Championships, standing out as the only girl to place in the tournament. The following year, COVID lockdowns disrupted her wrestling plans, but her family's move to Florida allowed her to continue her wrestling career at Crestview High School.

High School Wrestling Career

Throughout her high school career, Sigrun has been a dedicated member of the Crestview wrestling team. She has decided to continue her wrestling career in college. Her family's involvement in wrestling and BJJ, with all seven children participating in these sports, has been a significant source of encouragement. Notably, her brother is a WIAA State Champ in 2014, and being involved in his wrestling journey really encouraged her to wrestle.

The Allure of Wrestling

Sigrun loves wrestling because it is very challenging both for her body, but also for her mental faculties. It teaches physical and mental resilience, and she truly believes that anyone regardless of their personal challenges can benefit from wrestling at any commitment level. She also sees a future where, through sports medicine, she can touch people’s lives with the ethics and values wrestling has taught her. Sigrun feels she hasn't hit her peak yet as a wrestler.

Focus on Freestyle Wrestling

Prior to her junior year, Sigrun was a seasonal wrestler, spending her off-season with distant family and focusing on BJJ. In her junior year, she decided to start wrestling Freestyle. She competed in her first freestyle competition at the USA Wrestling SE Regional competition, taking 4th, then the FAWA (club) FS state she took 3rd and secured a spot on Team Florida for Fargo. Her experience at Fargo was transformative, inspiring her to pursue wrestling further.

Accolades and Memories

Sigrun has had many accolades in all the grappling arts, but her fondest memories aren't of podiums and medals, but personal barriers and records shattered and team accomplishments.
