National Recognition at AAU Taekwondo National Championships
Wolfe Pack Taekwondo returned home from this year’s AAU Taekwondo National Championships with a new title. The school earned Silver Level Club in Board Breaking, ranking them among one of the best schools for that discipline in the nation.
Wolfe Pack Taekwondo competed in 80 events at this year’s Taekwondo National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah. The athletes are skilled in a wide range of techniques, including point sparring, hand and foot board breaking, weapons forms, and traditional empty hand forms. The school received a total of 55 medals, the 6th highest medal count at nationals.
Head Coach Mike Wolfe said his students’ success at nationals is even more impressive considering they competed against schools with two to four times as many athletes. Two of its athletes were also named Grand Champions in their age groups. Leland Kirby and Eliana McLearan each won the title of Grand Champion, awarded to the most successful all-around athlete in their age divisions.

“I am very impressed, that is why I do this,” he said. “Every day they astound me with what they put into it and I see just amazing things, not just on the mat, but also it carries over into their school work and their other disciplines.”
Hard Work Earns Hardware
“Their confidence was so high and they train so well throughout the year that it was just no problem,” said owner and head instructor, Michael Wolfe.
Masters in Board Breaking
Wolfe Pack Taekwondo has long focused on board breaking at its school. The students must be able to demonstrate it in order to move up in belts. “There is board breaking for speed, for power, and for creativity,” said Wolfe.
This year, the students and coaches’ expertise in the highly technical discipline finally earned the school national recognition as a top 2 school in the nation for board breaking. Board breaking is a martial arts technique where athletes break boards using their hands or feet. The skill requires power, accuracy, and control. In AAU Taekwondo, the athletes must break wooden boards.
