The jiu jitsu season is often referred to as a two-sided schedule, with the first semester (January to June) belonging to the gi, and the second (July to December) being owned by no-gi. The reason why the sport is looked at this way is down to the IBJJF and UAEJJF calendars.
This guide focuses on the jiu jitsu no-gi uniform, especially for those planning to compete in IBJJF-style grappling events without the gi.
Mandatory Undergarments
PLEASE NOTE: It is mandatory that all athletes wear undergarments (underwear) - this is valid for both Gi and No-Gi events. The undergarment should be “brief-type” only (boxer briefs also allowed).
Rash Guard Requirements
Let's break down the requirements for rash guards in no-gi jiu-jitsu competitions:
Torso
Men should wear a shirt of elastic fabric (clings to body), often referred to as a rash-guard. Shirt of elastic fabric (rashguard) at a length that covers the shorts’ waistband, of black, white or black with white color, and displaying at least 10% of the color of the rank (belt) to which the athlete belongs.

A ranked rashguard should be in the arsenal of every serious grappler.
IBJJF Guidelines
The IBJJF lays out guidelines for ranked rashguards for the BJJ competitions, essentially stipulating that at least 10% of the garment colour should be of your rank.
Our black and white ranked rashguards are actually interchangeable, with at least 10% of the rank present in both. These ranked rashguards feature a subtle gradient of rank colour from top to bottom, as well as a blown-out central Scramble logo and a small logo hit on the shoulder.
