Early Career and Rise

Kelvin Davis started his professional boxing career in 1999 and had an amazing start, remaining undefeated in his first 20 fights!

  • During this time, he had a draw with veteran David Vedder (21-19-3) in 2001.
  • He secured a points win over 37-year-old former IBF-titleholder Arthur Williams.

His first loss came against Ravea Springs.

Title Contention and Championship Win

In 2003, he fought O'Neil Bell in a special match to decide who would get a chance at the IBF title. Kelvin lost that fight. Despite this loss, Davis's career was far from over.

In 2004, Kelvin Davis achieved a significant milestone by becoming the IBF Cruiserweight Champion after defeating Ezra Sellers. A cruiserweight boxer is typically between 175 and 200 pounds.

Title Defense and Subsequent Bouts

After winning the title, he did not defend it. In 2005, he lost fights to Guillermo Jones and Steve Cunningham.

In June 2007, while training for a heavyweight bout against Shane Cameron, Davis suffered a severe injury during a training run. Jumping over Auckland's Upper Harbour Bridge to avoid a car, he broke his neck and back in two places.

He was hospitalized in New Zealand for a month and underwent 11 hours of surgery. Many speculated that his boxing future was in doubt. However, Kelvin Davis showed incredible strength and determination, fully recovering and returning to boxing just four months later!

Return to the Ring and Retirement

In November 2007, after his return, Kelvin fought Carl Davis Drumond, who had never lost a fight before, and lost a decision.

After his return, Kelvin had a tough time in the ring. He did not win any of his last eight fights. Kelvin Davis decided to retire from boxing on January 18, 2008.

Davis also held the USBA/NABF Cruiserweight Titles and IBA Americas Cruiserweight Title during his career.
