The Lake Catholic wrestling program has a rich history and a clear vision for the future. The program is built on a foundation of hard work, dedication, and a commitment to developing the whole student-athlete.
“That’s our goal, getting guys to the top step of the podium. It’s a goal that doesn’t change,” said first-year head coach Scott Hivnor. “We did a radio show recently and the first nine kids said their goal was to be a state champion.”
Great programs are built through competition. According to Hivnor, “When they get to us (at the varsity level), they’re seasoned. They’ve been through a lot of battles and wrestled in big arenas.”
Back then, first-year coach Jerry Bals didn’t have a lot to work with. “It was small,” said Sam Colacarro, the only athletic director the school has ever had.
