High School Achievements
Wagner's accomplishments at Faith Christian Academy highlight his capabilities as a wrestler. Faith Christian has built a reputation as a wrestling power. They showed their stuff in a big way at the PIAA Class 2A championships here at the Giant Center.
The Lions qualified 10 wrestlers for this tournament, one of the toughest, if not the toughest, in the country and all 10 went home with state medals (a top eight finish or better). On Friday, all 10 of Faith Christian's contingent competed in the semifinals, and six Lions won their matches to reach Saturday afternoon's championship finals. In those finals, the Lions crowned four gold medalists led by junior Adam Waters, who won his third PIAA title.
Oh, and let's not forget, the Lions also had four wrestlers in the consolations in seniors Mason Stein (152 and a PIAA runner-up last year) and Chase Hontz (160) and juniors Jason Singer (215) and Mason Wagner (145). And those four, after all of them lost in the semifinals, bounced back in a big way with three of them finishing third (Stein, Hontz and Wagner) and one (Singer) fifth. That's a feat in itself to be able to bounce back and work your way through the consy bracket when your dream of a PIAA title is gone.
