Since opening in July 2007, Merced MMA has been dedicated to providing high-quality martial arts training in a family-friendly environment. The academy serves a diverse range of individuals, from those aspiring to compete to those seeking self-defense skills.
Comprehensive Martial Arts Programs
Merced MMA offers a variety of classes to suit different interests and skill levels. These include:
- Adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: Classes for those ages 13 and up.
- Children's Classes: Programs for children ages 4-12.
- Muay Thai Kickboxing: Offering both full and no-contact options.
- Submission Wrestling
- Women’s Conditioning: Fitness classes designed for women.
- Self Defense

Lineage and Philosophy
At Merced MMA, the instructors and students follow the teachings of 9th degree Red Belt, Grandmaster Flavio Behring. Merced MMA teaches traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from the Flavio Behring Jiu-Jitsu system as well as Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Submission Wrestling, and Women's Conditioning. "Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone," a phrase commonly said by Professor Marcos Tome. There are no age limits for Jiu-Jitsu and it does not depend on strength of the body, only the strength of the mind.

Oakdale MMA: A Sister Academy
Oakdale MMA, established in 1988, is the longest-running martial arts school in Oakdale, California. Led by Professor Tom Theofanopoulos, Oakdale MMA fosters a family-oriented atmosphere where students of all ages, including toddlers, can gain confidence and learn valuable life skills. Oakdale MMA is dedicated to producing better citizens through martial arts training and community support. The academy is also committed to giving back to the community, providing scholarships and organizing fundraisers for those in need.
