Muay Boran, the ancient martial art of Thailand, is gaining popularity in the United States. Several training centers offer authentic techniques, experienced instructors, and supportive communities for practitioners of all levels. This article explores some of the leading Muay Boran training centers in the USA.
Muaythai Iyarin: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity
Muaythai Iyarin is rooted in both Thailand and Seattle, WA, proudly representing the rich tradition of Muaythai while making it accessible in the Pacific Northwest. At their Seattle gym, they offer classes for all levels-from kids and beginners to advanced fighters. They also host seminars, sparring events, exhibitions, and cultural gatherings.
Their work extends beyond the gym. Through their events and Muaythai&Travel App, they promote Thai culture worldwide, helping users find gyms, events, Thai food, and travel tips in one place.
Woodenman Muay Thai: A Journey of Self-Understanding
Woodenman Muay Thai was founded based on the belief that Muay Thai is best expressed as a journey towards self-understanding, self-betterment, enjoyment, and a sense of community. Their focus isn’t the destination but the continued process and expression of deference and love for the practice of Muay Thai. No matter what brings you through their doors, they want you to understand the practice better and, through that, have a greater love for yourself.
In many ways, this ideology brought their founders, Jongsanan and Malia, together. With over a decade of training, competition matches, and friendship, the idea for this gym became a reality.

Great, technical classes as well as fight team training are run by former Lumpinee champion Mahachon, and a couple of other Thai trainers. All of the coaches are phenomenal and amazing with kids. The children’s class is the highlight of the week. This Muay Thai gym is highly recommended.
The instructors are knowledgeable and push you to be your best. The atmosphere is welcoming, unlike some other gyms. If you want to train hard and well, this is the place for you. There is a spot here for all levels. If you are a beginner, seasoned professional training for your next fight, or anything in between, you will find training useful here.
One recent joiner shares, "I recently joined The Little Giant Muay Thai, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by the friendly and professional staff. The classes are well-structured and cater to all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. Each session is intense and challenging, but the instructors make sure everyone understands the techniques and progresses at their own pace. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, with plenty of equipment available for training. Overall, The Little Giant Muay Thai is an outstanding gym that offers top-notch training and a supportive environment. Whether you’re looking to get fit, learn self-defense, or compete, this is the place to be."
Another member expresses, "Since joining Little Giant Muay Thai a few months ago, I’ve embraced a new lifestyle of fitness and camaraderie. I was never an athlete; I always focused on my career since I was a teenager. I've experienced a remarkable transformation, with my brain rewiring as I learn new coordination and fitness techniques I never knew before. It’s been an amazing journey."
The coaching team is incredible-patient, professional, and supportive. Some class members initially doubted that I would last long in this gym. “I’m really happy with my decision to join and find myself impressing my own expectations with each class-not something this +50-year-old ever anticipated saying! In terms of health stats, since joining LGMT, I’ve seen a significant decrease in visceral and body fat, along with an increase in muscle mass. I look forward to each class for many reasons. I'm incredibly focused throughout the workday, and my diet and sleep have naturally improved to peak levels. I’m probably the last person you’d expect to see practicing Muay Thai; I had no idea what I was getting into but knew it would challenge me and I wanted to try it. I can’t imagine my life without this now.”
The best boxing gym in DMV. Outstanding & authentic Muay Thai, great trainer, amazing people, and such a wonderful atmosphere. This place is exceedingly highly recommended. Stop by and check it out.
One parent notes, "One of the best gyms. My 3-year-old goes there, and the coaches are so patient. Amazing atmosphere, instructors, and management."
Another student shares, "I took private lessons here before I moved, and they were completely worth the price. The coaches and other gym goers are all extremely experienced, welcoming, and committed to improvement- your skills WILL advance at this gym, and you'll meet a bunch of really great people, too. I never encountered anyone at Little Giant with a toxic attitude or need to prove themself. Great class!!"
This gym is by far one of the best in the area. Every instructor/kru is great: Niko, Nate, Kru Chon, Kru Addy, Kru Roger, Ayan. Kru Chon and the rest of the staff are incredibly welcoming. They truly made the transition from my previous gym smooth.
A parent remarks, "My daughter loves Thai boxing class here! She used to go to the Martial art but she didn’t like it. The teachers here are so kind and very efficient. They create a fun environment and good Thai boxing skills for children (and adult too i saw adult class) the place is very clean."
One long-time practitioner states, "I’ve trained all across the east coast, and very few gyms maintain the positive growth-based environment that I see in this gym while keeping a high-training quality. You are either too good or not good enough to train with the pros in most places, and injuries are abundant - not at LittleGiant however. Everyone is welcome regardless of skill level, everyone trains together whether it be a novice or pro fighter, the staff and instructors do their best to keep you safe and motivated, and most importantly everyone will make an effort to say hi, remember your name, and welcome you back eagerly."
The Little Giant Muay Thai gym is the best place to practice Muay Thai. They have knowledgeable and helpful trainers, clean facilities, and many times to train. This gym is highly recommended to anyone who wants to learn something new (or continue developing) and wants an excellent workout.
According to one experienced fighter, "This is the best muay thai outside of Bangkok. Lead instructor Chon was my coach back in Thailand when I was fighting and he coached and trained me for many wins! He is a former stadium fighter himself, so the level of instruction is unbeatable. If your goals are UFC, Lion Fight, or simply to just get into shape, Little Giant Muay Thai is the ONLY place to go. Chon is very traditional in his approach and no matter what level of boxing you are he gives everyone the same amount of teaching."
One dedicated student recounts, "When I began my journey with Muay Thai in 2020 I, as expected, had a lot to learn. In the beginning, getting some of the basic techniques down was difficult for me and I struggled a lot. Fortunately, I kept at it; I took fundamental classes, watched a lot of videos, and eventually purchased a punching/kicking bag to practice new techniques at home. The following summer, my girlfriend called around to inquire about some gyms so that I could continue practicing while we were on vacation, and we stumbled upon The Little Giant. There is no other teacher I've met who is more dedicated, accommodating, innovative, and encouraging than he is. The staff is great as well. Nate, in particular, is a great communicator and has been so helpful every time I had to set up appointments. In addition, each instructor that I've had the privilege of learning from, be it through a private or group class, has helped me tremendously. Thanks to Kru Chon's knowledge and guidance, I have progressed enormously in my Muay Thai journey. It is always the most humbling experience to train at the Little Giant and I could not be more grateful that I stumbled upon this gym all those years ago."
Another loyal member says, "Littlegiant Muay Thai is my second home, and Kru Chon has beautiful technique. While the Muay Thai at Little Giant is truly exceptional, it is the community that makes this gym so great. Very professional and quality instruction. Littlegiant has extremely friendly and welcoming instructors. As someone who was new to Muay Thai, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was treated with respect and understanding from the minute I stepped into the gym to sign up."
"Hands down, this is the absolute best muay thai gym on the east coast. The instructors are real, authentic, and they're truly dedicated to helping you improve and get better. If you're looking to up your skills, or just looking for an authentic muay thai gym with top-tier trainers, this is the best place to go."
