Southpaw Brewing Company, with locations in Sag Harbor, NY, and Port St. Lucie, FL, has quickly become a notable spot for craft beer and diverse food options. This article delves into a comprehensive review of Southpaw Brewing Company, covering aspects from beer selection and food quality to ambiance and service, based on customer experiences and critical assessments.
About Southpaw Brewing Company
Southpaw Brewing Company is a sharply dressed brewpub that recently opened in The Heart of Tradition. Southpaw Brewing Co. opened in the Tradition area of Port St. Lucie near the Heart sculpture. The interior strikes a clean, sleek, industrial lounge vibe with quilted black leather chairs and barstools, as well as a black ceiling with exposed ductwork softened by hanging cage pendants and delicate glass bulbs. As you enter, your eyes immediately go to the neon sign blazing, “Beer makes me hoppy,” and the glowing backlit blue bar, which is the epicenter for their house-crafted brews.
Located at 410 Princeton Rd, Yaphank, NY 11980, Southpaw Brewing Company offers a unique experience. They provide a diverse selection of beers brewed off-site in Oyster Bay. Their menu features a variety of delicious food options, including brick oven pizza, appetizers like duck wontons and empanadas, as well as burgers, jumbo wings, and big soft pretzels. With ten different beers on tap, ranging from pilsners to IPAs to seltzers, Southpaw Brewing Co. provides a unique and flavorful experience for beer enthusiasts.
Beer and Drinks
Southpaw Brewing Company knows how to pour beer - literally - from the bottom up. Although the beers are brewed offsite, beer is delivered fast, fresh and foam-free from cleverly engineered taps that are like brewery black magic. My friend ordered a flight of six beers ($14). He loved the grapefruity St. Lucie POG and the Espresso Nutcase porter, in particular. He did not try the Lefty Lucie lite lager (named after me, naturally).
If you are not a beer drinker, Southpaw also serves craft cocktails, including a mango tango martini, a raspberry lemon drop and Lucie’s Aperol spritz (named after me, naturally).

Food Menu Highlights
The menu at Southpaw Brewing Co. is extensive, featuring a wide range of options to satisfy different tastes. As someone named Lucie, dining in Port St. Lucie, in St. Lucie County, and sipping Lucie’s Aperol spritz, I can attest that Southpaw Brewing Co. has a great ambience, a creative menu and beer poured upside down.
Here are some standout dishes:
- Brick Oven Pizza: A must-try, known for its crispy and flavorful crust with generous toppings.
- Appetizers: Duck wontons and empanadas are popular choices.
- Main Courses: Burgers, jumbo wings, and big soft pretzels.
This is the kind of place where you expect to find wings, nachos and other bar bites. It has those, plus loads of other tempting dishes leading to existential decisions about pulled pork grilled cheese, Cajun shrimp street corn, short rib gnocchi or miso ginger salmon. Four of us struggled to choose with several options discussed, leading to actual discussions about what we would order the next time we returned.
We had heard the Bavarian pretzel ($15) was to die for but settled on the Boomin' Bloomin' ($20), which was a deep-fried glorious onion buried under blue cheese crumbles, bacon, scallions and pink spicy boom boom sauce. We devoured it with joy.
My friend and I decided to split a pizza. The substitute Caprese pizza ($22) with a thin, chewy crust was decent but not mind-blowing.

The sandwiches redeemed everything. The Godfather ($22) was a satisfying punch of savory flavors with a crispy chicken cutlet tucked into a balsamic glazed ciabatta roll, caramelized onions, roasted peppers and fresh mozzarella. The sweet potato fries were clearly double-fried for crispness and were borderline addictive. The meatball vodka parm ($19) was a comforting, two-handed sandwich with plump meatballs, creamy vodka sauce and melted mozzarella heaped on a toasted garlic hero. It was messy and magical - the kind of sandwich to eat when you need a hug. The house-cut fries were perfectly seasoned and golden.
Tempting dishes include pulled pork grilled cheese, Cajun shrimp street corn, short rib gnocchi and miso ginger salmon.
Customer Reviews and Experiences
Many customers have praised Southpaw Brewing Company for its excellent food and welcoming atmosphere. Everything at Southpaw is absolutely excellent! From the moment you walk in, you know you’re in for a great meal. The pizza is top-notch-crispy, flavorful, and loaded with the perfect amount of toppings. The steak sandwich was cooked to perfection, juicy and full of flavor. What really stood out were the chicken eggrolls-they were out of this world! Portions are very generous, and everything was served hot and fresh. Highly recommend Southpaw for anyone looking for quality food and great service!
Such an amazing family owned restaurant. I highly recommend ordering the sapphire martini! The calamari was delicious and don’t even get me started on the pizza! You must try everything! The service was great and was very helpful with all our needs.
Fantastic place! It is beautifully appointed. The atmosphere is upscaled, yet relaxed. Fantastic new spot that just had their hard opening today. Had the chipotle ranch chicken pizza, wings, fries, and Bavarian pretzel. Loved it. Pleasure to have been there on opening day! Place is beautiful, comfortable and great atmosphere. Had pizza, wings and drinks. Enjoyed them all. Will definitely be a regular. Great beer, amazing food, and kid friendly?! That's any parent's dream! ;) You'll be seeing us more often especially since we live across the street haha!

I love my beers and trying different breweries. It is so rare to find a brewery that has good beers (I tried 3!), good food and serves alcohol. We met the owners, Tommy, Angelique and their daughter (whose name I don’t recall) and they were super nice and ready to make sure we enjoyed our evening. Do yourself a favor and go here and have fun! Support this fine family and the American entrepreneurs! Cheers! New spot definitely got to give them a try. I went out of my way to go here as they had both craft beer their own Brewery and a nice lineup of various food on the menu. Nice clean spot in a new neighborhood. They have their own beers and all are pretty good. Awesome nachos and cheesesteak. Love how the beer comes from the bottom of the cup. I'll be back..even took a pic with the owner.
Service Quality
While many patrons have lauded the service, some negative experiences have been reported. Party of 14 for a birthday. And what a S.S it was some of the worst service and food we have had. Even the slice of keylime pie was bad. It was gritty. Pizzas were a mess and not one person at the table got there food at the same time, was told it was because they only had 1 person in the kitchen and (almost no one in the restaurant) but plenty of wait staff too busy socializing between themselves and watching a movie that was on one of the TVs near the waitress station to be bothered doing there jobs couldn’t even bus the tables. Plates from the appetizers were still on the table even after we paid the checks guess if a place adding 20% tip and charging for refills on ice tea that has premium prices for really poorly prepared food and poor poor services I would not expect this place to be around for long Especially in this economy. There are too many places that run rings around this place with its service and poor food quality. It’s a shame because we really need more quality restaurants. If you’re going to charge premium prices at least make sure the food and service is inline with the prices. Note to management most of the guest kept quiet because it was a birthday party for someone you see once a week so that should tell you what table this was or the note on the check about leaning to bus tables. You’re welcome to contact me regarding this literal failure of your staff. Better service should have been provided but staff doesn’t care when they know they are getting the tip anyway. And charging for additional glasses of ice tea for refills is just stupidity on your servers part and management.
It’s important to note that experiences can vary, and this feedback may not be representative of every visit.
